Cybersecurity experts presented a rating of the most common threats for 4 square meters. 2020, as well as a forecast of trends in their development in 2021.
Due to the significant transition of most companies to remote mode, the number of attacks on the remote desktop protocol (RDP) continues to grow. According to ESET, the number of attempts at such attacks increased by 768% during 2020.
In addition, cybercriminals are increasingly targeting the supply chain: only 4 square meters. In 2020, ESET detected the same number of cases that had previously been recorded throughout the year. And given the potential benefits to attackers, the number of such attacks will only increase.
At the same time, the prevalence of banking malware decreased by 4 square meters. 33% compared to 3 square meters. – presumably due to the introduction of security measures in the banking sector. The prevalence of backdoor, spyware and web threats has also declined.
Weak passwords remain one of the key Internet security issues. According to ESET, among more than 140,000 tested routers, about 5,000 devices used weak passwords, and almost 3,000 had at least one known vulnerability.
So how not to become the main target of hackers?
Remember, in order not to fall victim to any of the above threats, you should follow the basic rules:
✔️ provide an additional level of account protection – use strong passwords and multi-factor authentication;
✔️ check the reliability of web resources;
✔️ use a password manager;
✔️ follow the basic rules of cyber hygiene to protect personal data;
✔️ protect personal devices (for example, provide reliable protection of RDP when working from home);
✔️ Update software on mobile devices and laptops in a timely manner.
Take care of the security of your data and stay cyber secure!
